2025 has left me searching for miracles and magic. The danger of a 40 hour week is that we’re usually so busy and so stressed we can’t see beyond every day. When all we can see is what’s right in front of us, we start to lose our sense of wonder, and childlike joy over miracles. Two stones that make me think of winter magic are labradorite and aquamarine. Maybe these rocks carry the vibration of Mother Earth. Maybe their complex and ordered systems interacting with our own do in fact create change. Or maybe the sparkle and lore create just enough space between our every day struggles to allow miracles to pass through.
Labradorite is a grey toned mineral with layers that reflect brilliant colors from pink to gold and often multiple colors at once. Inuit people tell varying stories about the Northern Lights being freed from the earth by a determined warrior. And where he struck the earth pieces remained holding onto that light. It’s said that labradorite granted courage to other warriors who used its divine guidance in their spear tips and arrowheads. Others in the northern cold countries believed labradorite could help divine answers or help predict the future. Even now it’s said to help writers cultivate creativity and find their flow.

Aquamarine in its icy blue hues reminds me of a starry night. It was often credited with calm seas and starlight navigation. Spiritualists thought its reflection could unravel deep inner truths and reveal secrets hidden from our eyes. Still others believed that the star light trapped in the some could being communications from the heavens.
You don’t have to believe in the magic or even find truth in the stories. It doesn’t have to be literal to be effective. I keep a labradorite ring and pendant around. Maybe it’s magic and aligns something in me. Maybe it’s an inspiring symbol that boosts my confidence and blows a breath of whimsy into my world. Aquamarine might reveal the ancestral magic as I navigate a confusing and dangerous world. It might also just remind me of winter starlight and remind me to reflect on the love of a thousand generations who converged to bring me to this space and place right now. I choose magic. I choose wonder. I choose miracles. Human Generated.
