Synopsis: Last month, my daughters and I went on a medical campaign to a small unfamiliar town named Huaral in the Country of Peru. We do this annually. We find a place that needs medical care and we set up a free clinic and we go into the streets and the schools, and we invite people to come and take part of it. Usually there is a line around the block of people needing to see a doctor, a physical therapist, a dentist, an optometrist and even a psychologist. We have a stocked pharmacy and we help as many people as we can in a week’s time. Even if you are not a doctor, or a professional there is work to be done. One of my daughters went out into the town knocking on doors and inviting the people to come. Another ran the registration desk checking the patients in and getting and directing them which way to go. I was the campaign photographer and a translator for one of the doctors. Many sick and hurting people came by and we did what we could for each one. It renewed my cultural belief of treating people with kindness. Our Creation Story explains how we look out for the interests of others, and we don’t try to elevate ourselves like the Hattepaa did. I am a better person for those people. I hope they are better because of us too.
