On June 11, the Las Vegas Indian Center (LVIC) hosted their bimonthly sewing class in Las Vegas.  The next class will be June 26 from 5-8 at 2300 West Bonanza.  This session, participants worked on ribbon shirts.  Ribbon shirts are generally worn by males, although women wear them too.  Ribbon shirts symbolize indigenous pride, unity, and resilience.  Often used as a visual expression of culture, identity, and tradition.  There is a story with every design and color when making your shirt.  This potluck themed sewing class enjoyed a summer treat of refreshing salads.  Everyone brought their favorite salad to kick off the class right. Salad was a great choice because triple-digit temperatures have returned to Las Vegas.  The class allows the Las Vegas community to come together to enjoy each other’s company and learn about the diverse indigenous cultures residing in the Clark County.
