This is a sample of Kumeyaay vocabulary. San Diego County and the adjacent region of Baja California Norte in Mexico is still the unceded and of the Kumeyaay/Kumia people, who still live in metropolitan San Diego and Tijuana.
Many place names in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada are of Indigenous origin and modern speakers and speaking the first languages of the land whether they know it or not. We think they should know.
