Henry Paul Cuero
11/10/1964 - 12/7/2025
Yeah, as I sat there with Paul in the hospital for what will be the last few days of his being here with us, we spoke a lot about everything that we should do and how we should never give up with our fight for equality among the Kumiai/Kumeyaay Nation, which was what was intended to be since the beginning of time. We (me and him) were doing and getting our people’s equal rights at the border because this is all our land as well, and we should all be treated equally because if we don’t do so what it does is cut the circulation. It’s like a vein cutting the circulation, killing our people off. Paul expressed it all, and Paul is and will always be one of my heroes. All we’re asking is for our people to be respected at that fence that these foreigners to our land have placed on our land, and if you are patriotic about being who we are, you shouldn’t be allowing that for a lot of great warriors fought and died so that we could all have equal rights, not just some. Paul is and always will be one of the people that inspired me to fight for our people’s rights. My ancestor and Paul’s ancestor Jatñil died for us all. Let’s not cut the blood flow from this vein and not allow the love of the Kumiai to prosper.
Rest in Peace.
Your loving nephew Gerado Cota.
