Lumbees and other Indian people relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1900s, seeking industrial jobs. They established homes, businesses and churches, and many returned home frequently to North Carolina to see family.

Their neighborhood, nicknamed “The Reservation,” has largely transitioned to the home of other ethnic groups, but some longtime Native residents remain there.

The website, baltimorereservation.com, contains several photo galleries of the community in the 1960s.
